Sawyer’s hand visit
February 2, 2012 § 2 Comments
After a crazy morning, we finally made it down to Shriners. They needed a new x-ray of his hand. According to Brian it went much smoother than the first x-rays he had when he was 2 days old. The waiting room was very empty so we were brought back after about 5 minutes of waiting, normally it takes around an hour.
We did, however, have to wait a while for the doctor, so Brian decided to pass the time by singing “Running With the Devil” in the highest voice he could.
His doctor said that he will most likely leave his hand the way it is. He could remove the middle finger ( which is fused to the ring finger) so he could have two normal looking fingers, and that will make it easier for him to grab stuff. He said he would do this in a couple years.
Sawyer will be given a glove with a thumb stuck in the grabbing position so he can ride a bike, easily pick things up and eventually hold the steering wheel.
Maybe one day we’ll be able to get him a Star Wars prosthesis. How cool would that be?!
We go back in 6 months to check things out again. By that time he will have a brand new foot and hopefully we’ll be able to keep him in one place long enough for them to look at his hand.
In other good news, Sawyer is pulling himself up and pushing himself up to sit. Also, in our biased opinion.. he’s still the coolest kid ever.
Until next time!
